Keeping your carpets clean can seem like a tedious task, especially if your household is full of children or pets. You may not know this, but regular vacuuming just isn’t going to cut it when it comes to keeping your carpets in like-new condition, or when it comes to prolonging its lifespan.
Follow these tips and tricks from our carpet cleaning professionals at K-tech Kleening to keep your carpets looking and feeling great:
Vacuum Often and Take Your Time.
Vacuuming your carpets is a no-brainer when it comes to maintaining your carpets. The trick with vacuuming your carpets is how you vacuum and how often you do it. When vacuuming you want to take your time going over your carpet to grab as much dust and dander as possible. The faster you vacuum, the less effective your vacuum will be. Your goal here is to suck up as much dirt as possible before it sets too deep within your carpet. Once the dirt reaches deep down into your carpeting the harder it is to remove and the more damage it causes to your carpet fibers.
Normally, carpets should be vacuumed 1-2 times a week. However, if you have children, pets, or people who suffer from allergies, it would be beneficial to increase your vacuuming routine to 2-3 times a week in regular traffic areas and 3-4 in high-traffic areas.
Respond to a Spill Quickly
If something gets spilled on your carpet, grab a washcloth and quickly blot at the spill to keep it from soaking into the carpet too deep. Always keep in mind that blotting a stain is way more effective than rubbing a stain. Rubbing a stain allows the spill to soak into the carpet and spread, and that is exactly what you don’t want to happen. When you start the blotting process work from the outside of the spill, using dabbing motions, and work your way in. Blot the area until the washcloth comes away clean. Make sure you soak up any remaining moisture to prevent mold growth and unpleasant odors.
Invest in indoor and outdoor mats.
On average, several pounds of dirt and dander accumulates in household carpets. To help cut back on how much dirt and dander make it onto your carpets invest in some indoor and outdoor mats. The mats will collect a significant amount of the dirt and grime that gets tracked in by your shoes. Keep in mind that your mats will also need some TLC to keep up with the dirt that they collect. Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions when cleaning or maintaining your mats.
