Oneida County WI was formed from Lincoln County back in 1887. The fascinating fact about Oneida County is that the area where it is currently located has changed 4 different counties. The first one was Portage County, one of the original territorial counties. Following Portage County it became Marathon County, which in turn became Lincoln County and finally, it was formed into Oneida County WI.
In subsequent years other parts of Oneida County were assigned to other counties, like Price County and Villas County.
Oneida County was named after the Oneida Nation, one of the five Iroquois nations.
